Funeral Services for William "Bill" Walter Chastain, 82 of Port Lavaca, Texas, formerly of Groveton, Texas will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 24, 2011 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of the Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas with Bro. Lewis Jones and Bufford Rogers to officiate. Interment will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Connie T. Wood, Robert E. Chastain, Kenneth Fergerson, Ken Byers, Wayne Byers, Jeremey Shipley, Jason Mosely, and James Holmes. Honorary Pallbearers are James E. Connerly, Brett Byers, Don Byrd, and Billy Moore.

He was born February 22, 1928 to James W. Chastain and Violet E. Fisher Chastain in Bedford, Indiana and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 20, 2011 in Victoria, Texas. When on leave from the Army, he met his beautiful pin pal wife and they were united in marriage on October 7, 1947. As their marriage grew and began like most. They were blessed the proud parents of their first born son Daniel Edward Chastain on December 14, 1948 and then later blessed with a second son William Robert "Bob" Chastain on September 23, 1950.

Bill had a booming career in the Army for a span of 20 years and included some great traveling sights and new cultures from around the world. When he retired from the Army he wanted to try his hand as a logger which worked for a while and he found that it was very hard work. He loved restoring old radiators, bicycles for the kids and anything that he could find to work on because he sure enjoyed a challenge.

He loved to spend time with all of his grandchildren as much as he could. He always knew how to make the most out of any situation. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and could spin a yarn of stories of his adventures if you had the time.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents James W. Chastain and Violet Chastain and step brother C.D. Byers.

Survivors include his wife Thelma M. Byrd Chastain; sons Daniel Edward Chastain and wife Kathy, and William Robert "Bob" Chastain and wife Phyllis; five grandchildren Connie Wood and Jason Mosely, Robert Chastain and wife Jennifer, Danielle Chastain, Meshelle Chastain, and Jennifer Fergerson; six great grandchildren Kenneth Fergerson, Allison Fergerson, Holly Wood, Shelby Wood, Amanda Wilson, and Trishia Roddy; two great-great grandchildren Alyssa Boui, and Aiden Wilson; step sister-in-law Frances Byers Shepherd and husband Jim, nephews Ken Byers, Brett Byers and Wayne Byers and numerous other relatives and friends.
