Funeral services for Mr. W.G. Stephens will be held Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Apple Springs First Baptist Church in Apple Springs, TX. Burial will follow in New Church Cemetery in Apple Springs, TX. W.G. went to his eternal home on February 1, 2021 at the age of 94. W.G. was born in the Peavy Switch Community of Lufkin, Texas to Gorden and Minnie (Thigpen) Stephens.
W.G. loved sports of all kinds, he even coached Little League Baseball many years ago in Hudson, TX. W.G. was also a graduate of Hudson High School. It would touch his heart to watch when his grandchildren played sports. He also loved to hunt and fish. W.G. retired from Wholehome Bread Co. and later went to work for Cook's Eggs until his retirement. He was a people person and enjoyed visiting and making new friendships a long the way.
W.G. was preceded in death by his parents, Gorden and Minnie (Thigpen) Stephens, his infant son, Dennis Gordon Stephens; his wife of 31 years, Evelyn Harvell Stephens; sister, Pauline Stephens; son- in-law, Marvin Edward LaRue; and brother-in-law, Robert Hall.
He is survived by his children: daughter, Deborah LaRue of Groveton, TX; daughter, Evelina Zolman and husband, Johnny Zolman, of Huntsville, TX; grandchildren: Amber LaRue Hawkins and husband, Matt Hawkins of Groveton, TX; Jade Zolman Currie and husband, Stephen Currie of Conroe, TX; Lance Harvell LaRue of Lovelady, TX; Jared Larkin Zolman and wife, Rachel Zolman of Coldspring, TX; great-grandchildren: Reed Hawkins, Rhett Hawkins, Kohen Currie, Cora Zolman, Cambrie Zolman, Rollin Currie, Capri Currie, and Jonathan Zolman; sister, Lilian Hall of Lufkin, TX; as well as his Church family and numerous other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to New Church Cemetery fund PO Box 59 Apple Springs, TX 75926
