Obituary

William Henry Holcombe, age 79, of Groveton, Texas was born in Crecy, Texas and passed away on February 15, 2019 in Lufkin, Texas. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2019 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas with Bro. Lewis Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Bennett Cemetery in Apple Springs, Texas. He will be escorted to his final resting place by his pallbearers: Chance DeLafosse, Lindel Dial, Lamar Thornton, Dean Due, Jon Archer and Johnny Wars. Honorary Pallbearers: Arthur M. Jones, Charles Maxey, Keith Christopher, Bill Whitmire, Buddy Strickland and Lodge Brothers of Eastern Star #284 AF & AM
Mr. Holcombe loved to spend time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed going on fishing and hunting trips with his sons. He also enjoyed grilling his "famous to his family BBQ" and was always competitive when challenged to a "grill-off." Henry was extremely active within the community and served as a past secretary for the Trinity County Sherriff's Posse and a past secretary for the Groveton ISD Trustees. He was a life-time member of Houston Livestock and Rodeo and got started with them through the Area Trinity County Go Texan group. Mr. Holcombe was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge Eastern Star Lodge #284 AF & AM and Groveton Chapter of O.E.S.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge and Nora Holcombe; two brothers, Jesse and Delton Holcombe; daughter, Karen Holcombe and father-in-law, R.L. "Shorty" Archer. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Archer Holcombe of Groveton, TX; son, Anthony Holcombe and Misty DeLafosse of Groveton, TX; son, Leo Holcombe and Henrietta Thompson of Groveton, TX; mother-in-law, Lorene Archer of Groveton, TX; grandchildren, Holly Broughton and husband, Alex Broughton, Chayce DeLafosse, Chance DeLafosse, Roper Holcombe, Cody Tullos, Chelby Holcombe and Haley Holcombe; and great grandchild, Braedon Warner; brother-in-law, Randall Archer of Groveton, TX and a host of other beloved relatives and friends also survive.
