Funeral services for William Allton Clay, Jr., age 66 of Groveton, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2015 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas with Bro. Davis Thornton officiating the services. Interment will follow in Ellis Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas.
Mr. Clay was born on September 4, 1948 in LaGrange, Georgia and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at his home in Groveton after a courageous battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, William and Dorothy (Cardwell) Clay; his grandparents, Ruby and Walter Cardwell and numerous aunts and uncles. William loved his family and enjoyed being able to spend as much time with his grandbaby as he could. He really loved to paint and had a special joy for woodworking. He was a member of Eastern Star Lodge #284 A.F. & A.M. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He leaves to cherish his memories wife, Lorena Clay, of Groveton; daughter, Dorothy Clay, of Groveton, son, John Clay; daughter, Christie Kay; daughter, Brigett; sister, Lamerle Smith, of Livingston; sister, Lola Bockel and husband, Jim Bockel, of Houston; brother, Jimmy Clay, of Groveton; granddaughter, Kenzlee Lauren Dial, of Groveton; niece, Deanna Hunt, of Huntsville, Alabama; nephew, Jay Bockel and wife, Lisa Bockel, of Dequincy, Louisiana; nephew, Bobby Grigar and family; niece, Amanda Newkham and family; and a host of other relatives and friends, also survive.
Pallbearers will be his Masonic brothers.
