Thomas Lee Carpenter, born on December 5, 1934, in Booneville, Arkansas, to parents Thomas Eddie Carpenter and Etta Lee (Powledge), passed away on August 28, 2024, in Trinity, Texas, at the age of eighty-nine.
Mr. Carpenter dedicated much of his life to his work as a mechanic. He and his family lived in Baytown, Texas, for most of their lives. It was there that he met his wife, Carol Sue (Anderson), and they were married in March 1954 at his childhood church in Cedar Bayou.
Thomas had a passion for collecting old classic automobiles, with his 1929 Model A and 1931 Ford Truck being his pride and joy. In addition to his love for cars, he enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing. Following their retirement, he and Mrs. Carpenter moved to Trinity County in 2017 to enjoy a quieter life.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of seventy years, Carol Sue Carpenter, of Groveton, Texas; his son, Darrel Carpenter, and his wife, Sharon, of Baytown, Texas; his grandchildren, Clint Carpenter and his wife, Lyndsey, Brent Carpenter and his wife, April; and his great-grandchildren, Austin Carpenter, Baylor Carpenter, and Kylie Carpenter. A host of other relatives and friends also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Etta Carpenter; his brother, Robert Eddie Carpenter; his sister, Shirley Maddix; and his niece, Sherry Kay Maddix.
The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 AM on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Groveton Funeral Home, with the funeral service following at 11 AM. Bro. Richard Steel will officiate the services. The burial will take place at Anderson Cemetery in Friday, Texas.
Pallbearers will include Clint Carpenter, Brent Carpenter, Kevin Sellers, Martin Mosely, Randy Potts, and Robert Merlin.
