Thelma Mae Chastain, age 84, of Port Lavaca, completed her earthly journey and went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 28, 2014 in Victoria, Texas. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Groveton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of the Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Bufford Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. She will be escorted to her final resting place by her pallbearers, Don Byrd, James Connerly, Connie Mosley, Robert Chastain, David Pina and Jeff Tipton. Honorary Pallbearers are Wayne Byers, Jason Mosley and Billy Moore.

Thelma was born on March 21, 1930 to her parents, Oscar Washington Byrd and Della May (Collens) Byrd in Sassafras, Kentucky. She enjoyed mother hood and raising her family. She loved being surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone; all they had to do was ask. She enjoyed doing cross word puzzles to pass the time while she waited to get out to go places. She was very much a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-three years, William W. "Bill" Chastain; father, Oscar Byrd; mother, Della Byrd; step-mother; Pearlie Byrd and three of her brothers, James E. Byrd, Franklin E. Byrd and William A. Byrd. Thelma leaves behind her children, son and daughter-in-law, Daniel E. Chastain and wife, Kathy, of Fort Worth, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, William R. "Bob" Chastain and wife, Phyllis, of Port Lavaca, Texas; five grandchildren, Michelle Wilson, Danielle Chastain Hollenshand, Jennifer Furgeson, Connie Mosley and husband, Jason Mosley and Robert E. Chastain and wife, Jennifer Chastain; eight great grandchildren, Allison Furgeson, Kenneth Furgeson and wife, Lindsey Furgeson, Holly Pina and husband, David Pina, Shelby Wood, Kason Hollenshand, Korbin Hollenshand, Trisha Bui and husband, Anthony Bui and Amanda Aquas and husband, Lester Aquas; five great-great grandchildren and one on the way, Alyssa Bui, Aiden Aquas, Sophia Aquas, Zander Aquas, Michael Pina; brother and sister-in-law, Donald H. Byrd and wife, Edna Byrd; sister-in-law; Geneva Byrd. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, also survive.
