Sallye Faye Evans, age 89, of Holly, passed away Thursday November 9, 2023 at Winfield Nursing Home in Crockett, Texas.
She was born August 11, 1934 (the youngest of 15 children of Martin Luther and Mary Emaline Thompson).
Sallye met her husband of 41 years at the Holly Community Center playing dominoes and on their first date he took her fishing in his pond. She decided after doing her favorite activities with Clifton that he was the one for her and married him on May 29, 1982.
Sallye was a member of Pennington Baptist Church where she faithfully attended as long as she was physically able. She loved to serve in the kitchen during fellowship meals, funerals and vacation bible school.
Sallye enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, cooking for her grandchildren and taking them to feed chickens and gather the eggs, also fishing with everyone that came to see her.
Sallye is survived by her loving husband, Clifton Evans, children David Norsworthy and wife Cinda, Sue Norsworthy Gore, Garry Norsworthy and wife Connie, Nancy Jones, Colleen Weeks and Clinton.
Grandchildren Tiffany Norsworthy and husband Kelly, Amy Cleaver and husband Chancey, Mitchell Woody and wife Bobbie, Kerri Gore, Jennifer Stroud and husband Chris, Amanda Wallace and husband Michael, Megan McGowan and husband Marshall, Matt Gore and wife Misty, Shawn Weeks and wife Chrissy, Lisa Elmore and husband Mitch, Michelle Nichols and husband Ryan, Clifton Evans IV and wife Magann, and Candice Evans.
Great grandchildren Page, Tanner, Brandon, Chad, Allisyn, Ayden, Sadie, Cooper, Carley, Clara, Bryce, Cade, Ashton, Kaylee, Shelby, Cody, Donnie, Brendon, Austin, Brooke, Christian, Kendall and Melody.
Great-great grandchildren Karder, Hazel, Daine, Wrenley, Liam, Georgia, Alexis, Katlyn, Kolten, Austin, Athena, Zachary, Hailey, Riley, Cody, Hannah, and Hayley.
Sister-in-law Polly Thompson Minter.
And numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, special friends and the Winfield Nursing Homes wonderful staff.
She is preceded in death by her husband John Willis Norsworthy; parents Martin Luther and Mary Emaline Thompson, and siblings Orgen Thompson, Nathan Thompson, Cleo Thompson, Wilford Thompson, Zulu Mills, Venson Thompson, Magdalene Gordon, Leona Harrison, O.Z. Thompson, Tom Thompson, Roberta Miller, Lillie Mae Dunlap, Maurine Williams, and Darlene Pyle and children Clifton Evans III, Steven Evans, son-in-law Irmal Jones and great granddaughter Katie Norsworthy.
Funeral services for Sallye Evans will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Bud Magee and Bro. Drew Scott officiating. Interment to follow at the Ellis Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm on Sunday the 12th prior to the funeral service.
