Roy E Hearn II, son of Dr. R E Hearn and Billie Othell Cochran, was born at 6:45pm Tuesday, June 26, 1956 on the Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. He passed suddenly on Wednesday afternoon, March 20, 2024 outside his home in Groveton, TX. At age 17, Roy joined the Army and served at Fort Bragg, being honorably discharged in 1976. During his service as a Small Arms Repairman and Armor Unit Supply Specialist he earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Parachute Badge, and the Expert Badge M-16. Married by Federal Judge Charles Hearn and Dr. Rev. William P. Lytle; celebrated 36th anniversary in December 2023. Roy enjoyed hunting in the woods of East Texas and continued to be devoted and highly knowledgeable, capable to advise friends and family. In Houston, Roy worked for the Kellogg Brown & Root Industrial Services and later spent many years with PM Realty Group Commercial Real Estate Services as a Property Manager for many of the large projects at several locations, including HL&P, Greenway Plaza, Conoco, and Post Oak Central in Houston. He earned an Electrician's License. He later studied and obtained CDL certification to be used in transportation hauling as an independent driver in moving Oil and Gas pipeline pipe and Agriculture timber logs in TX, LA, FL, and CA, as his wife obtained contracts and dispatch. Locally, he worked with Due Logging, among others. In 2003, Roy and wife moved to Groveton and began life on purchased family land in what would expand to be plus or minus 90 beautiful acres, taking great pride in raising exceptional Angus livestock. During those years, Roy also worked for the US Census and at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Correction Officer at Eastham, Duncan and Polunsky Units. Roy was known for his calm demeanor in always treating the inmates with respect and kindness. All who knew him admired his high intelligence and curiosity. He loved doing research in a wide variety of subjects. A speed reader, he had great retention. He is survived by his wife, his sister, cousin, and a host of other friends, colleagues, neighbors and kin. Roy's strong, caring presence will be greatly missed. In thinking ahead to his death, he wrote: "Celebrate my freedom from this cursed world. Know that I did not fear dying…I hope to meet my Maker." According to Roy's wishes his body was cremated and ashes spread in the lands he loved. He requested no funeral service and those who knew him are encouraged to celebrate his life in their own manner. His family thanks you for your acts of love and support.
