Obituary

Roger Winslow Best of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving children, honored wife and numerous dear family and friends on May 13, 2024. At the age of 53, Roger walked into the welcoming arms of proud mother, Marie and was greeted by all those who entered his new heavenly home before him.

Roger was born on August 13, 1970, to Neil & Marie Best, in Longview, Texas. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Business Administration and Finance in 1992. The bonds of friendship Roger developed in his college days are as strong today. He and his wife, Amy met in the DFW metroplex and married on October 25, 1997, in Spring, Texas at Spring Woods United Methodist Church.

Roger enjoyed a successful 30 year career in the transportation industry before transitioning into real estate. The relationships he built throughout his professional life were based on integrity, honesty, and mutual respect. Many of his business connections evolved into strong, lasting friendships, and his Best Transportation coworkers are "family," in the truest sense of the word. What Roger touched always shined a little brighter.

He and Amy were blessed with three amazing children, Austin, Tyler and Katie in 2005. Roger's primary goal in life was to take care of his family, and he accomplished his mission with great success. As a father, he taught his kids everything from how to change a tire… to how to demolish an ice cream cone… to how to live a life with humor, kindness, and honor. Roger fought and sacrificed much to give his family a little more time together. He made us all better.

From the moment Roger arrived in Clear Lake, Texas with his young family in 2008, he made a profound impact. He coached baseball, basketball and football, while serving on numerous community boards and inspiring many young men through athletics. He left a vast group of young men who will never forget Coach Roger.

Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed spending time on his ranch in Crockett, Texas. He traveled from Alaska to Mexico in search of the perfect fish and hunted across all of Texas and to Idaho for dove, white tail deer, antelope and elk.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Neil & Marie Best; and brother, Warren Best.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Best of Houston, Texas; two sons, Austin Best and Tyler Best; daughter, Katie Best; and a multitude of beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Roger leaves a legacy of love and friendship. Whether in his work or home life, Roger excelled in every area. He was a loyal, fun-loving friend, who was always happy to stop and share a long conversation or help anyone who needed him. Roger will remain the glue that binds so many of us together.
