Obituary

Richard L. Benson, 83, of the Friday community went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 19, 2015. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015 at Groveton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2015 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Benson Family Cemetery. He will be escorted to his final resting place by his pallbearers, Jason Benson, Jarrod Robinson, Robbie Kubiak, Jeff Staudt, Matt Sharrock and Bradley Luckey.

Richard was born on July 1, 1931 in Galena Park, Texas and worked as an accountant for Armco Steel until his retirement. He and his wife, Mona later moved to the country side in Friday, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Benson were affiliated with Galena Park Baptist Church until there move. They found their new church home with First Baptist Church of Groveton and participated in whatever activities that were available. They enjoyed helping with the youth of the community and supporting them in there endeavors.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Retha Benson; wife, Mona Jean Benson; and daughter, Lisa Gail Benson. Mr. Benson leaves to cherish his memory his children, daughter, Lia Martin and husband Mike Martin, son, Richard Benson and wife, Pat Benson, son, Randy Benson and wife, Trena Benson and son, Ragan Benson and fiance, Ramona Gates; grandchildren, Landree, Melissa and Tom Walker, Jason, Lauren and Jarrod Robinson, Andra and Robbie Kubiak, Randi and Jeff Staudt, Melody and Juan Cantu and Sharon Martin; great grandchildren, Rylee, Reese, Koy, Kale and Cole; a host of other relatives and cherished friends, also survive.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations be made to the youth department of First Baptist Church Groveton in honor of Richard L. Benson.
