Prentice Dell (P.D.) Hamilton of Bedias, TX finished his race and completed the task the Lord Jesus had given him, entering eternal life on Wednesday, March 2, 2017. He was born May 30 ^th , 1927 in Groveton, Texas where he lived most of his life. His parents were Enda Mae Dickey Hamilton Dean and Troy Hamilton. He graduated from Groveton High School in 1945. After graduation, he attended Sam Houston Teacher's College where he earned his Bachelors degree in 1949 and Masters in 1951. The love he had for his country led him to serve as a Merchant Marine during World War II and the Army in the Korean Conflict. He married the love of his life, Florine Johnson, on August 26 ^th , 1954. At the time of his death, they had been married 62 and a half years. He began his teaching career at Shepherd ISD as an Ag teacher, working there 14 years before moving back home to Groveton in 1962 where he worked as a school counselor in the Groveton ISD and surrounding schools in the county for 20 years. He was a strong, Christian man who was a faithful member of Highway 94 Church of Christ, serving many years as an elder. During his lifetime, Mr. Hamilton was very active in the community, serving in many organizations such as Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Groveton Ex-Students, and a Master Mason. His hobbies included the love of a trail ride on a gaited horse, ranching, and he was a die-hard Groveton Indian fan rarely missing a game. You could always find him in the stands or on the sidelines cheering for his home team. He was passionate about giving advice on life's lessons and story-telling, and rarely missed the opportunity to share with anyone that would afford the time to listen.

He is preceded in death by his father Troy Hamilton, mother Enda Mae Dickey Hamilton Dean, step-father George Dean, and grandson Nathan Troy Price. He is survived by his wife Florine Hamilton of Bedias; daughter Virginia Hamilton Price and husband Troy of Bedias; son Don Hamilton and wife Revette of Groveton; brother Joe Ned Dean of Groveton; sister Enda Lou Jackson of Groveton; grandchildren Justin Price and wife Whitney of Madisonville, Whitney Hamilton of Groveton, Clint Hamilton of Groveton, Amber Starr and husband John of Madisonville, Mike Price and wife Delisa of Huntsville; and 5 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services for Mr. Hamilton will be held Sunday, March 5 ^th , at 2:00 p.m. in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with interment following at Bennett Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, March 4 ^th from 6p.m.-8p.m. at Groveton Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Groveton Ex-Students Association P.D. and Florine Hamilton Scholarship Fund, Bennett Cemetery, or Highway 94 Church of Christ.
