Norris "Junior" Legg was born in Honey Island, Texas to Tommy Legg and Lola (Hester) Legg on January 14, 1927, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on April 14, 2022, at his home in Groveton, Texas at the age of 95 years.
Junior and his family moved to Camden, TX where his father worked in the lumber community. After the death of his father, his mother and siblings moved to Houston, TX. In the ninth grade he went to work for Western Union delivering telegrams. He later went on to work for Saage Motorcycle on Franklin Ave. in Houston. He had a successful career in motorcycle racing where he raced all over in the United States for Indian Motorcycles. He was famously known for making the cover of Life Magazine racing on Daytona Beach. He met the love of his life, Jorene in 1948 and they married settling down in Houston. He went on to become a successful business owner in Spring Branch (Houston) owning two service stations for Gulf Oil and Mobil Oil. He then later received his real estate and broker's license and owned many properties around the Houston area. Junior and Jorene retired in 1979 to move to Groveton, TX where he became a successful rancher and farmer.
Junior was preceded in death by wife, Jorene Legg; parents, Tommy and Lola Legg; brother, Lamar Legg; sister, Doris Smith; mother-in-law, Mary Sue Alexander; and son-in-law, Mike Crawford. Junior is survived by his beloved children: daughter, Sondra Crofford of Groveton, Texas; daughter, Gay Lynn Legg of Houston, Texas; sister, Eunice Weldon of Apple Springs, Texas; grandchildren: Gina Schild Knowles (Bo) of Houston, Texas, Michael Crofford (Logan) of Houston, Texas, Ashley Evans (Mike) of Houston, Texas, Arley Kocher (Brandon) of Houston, Texas, Parker Pustejovsky (Laura) of Bryan, Texas; great grandchildren: Mason Mitchell (Rachel), Taylor Jo-Knowles, Jonah Cote, Lola Cote, Owen Evans, Eddie Lane Kocher, Cal Norris Kocher, Jack Patton Pustejovsky; great-great grandchildren: Kaila, Josie, and Cason Mitchell; loving sister-in-law, Sandra Cole of Groveton, Texas; and brother-in-law, Jerry Alexander (Donna) of Groveton, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends in the community.
The family will welcome friends and extended family for visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2022, at Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Groveton with Bro. Matt Sharrock, officiating. Committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2022, in Houston, Texas at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
