Funeral services for Mary Lou Coleman Evans, age 86, of Nogalus Prairie, formerly of Port Arthur, left this Earth on Saturday, October 24, 2015 to be with our Lord. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home at Groveton, with Brother James Whittlesey officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Groveton Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 27.

Mary Lou was born on January 15, 1929 to James and Clara Coleman in Brush Prairie, Texas. Mary Lou grew up in Brush Prairie and attended Pennington High School, where she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Evans. Later, Mary Lou moved to Houston and after Bob returned from his military duty in the U.S. Navy, they were married on March 1, 1949. Together they have two children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and the many other roles she fulfilled, Mary Lou had a heart of gold that was filled with compassion and love for others. Mary Lou enjoyed cooking, sewing and quilting, canning, traveling and spending time with her loved ones. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Nogalus Prairie and had been a member of Eastern Star #954 since 1967. Mary Lou was also a member of the Port Arthur Assembly #160 of the Social Order of the Beauceant.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Robert "Bob" Evans of Nogaulus Prairie; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Cheryl Evans of Nederland, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Cyndi and Glenn Hebert of Groves, Texas; grandchildren: Jym and Beverly Evans, Holly Hebert, Kevin Faulk, Skylar Evans and Sophia Evans; great-grandchildren: Corbin, Evie and Corra Evans. Mary Lou is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William and Diane Coleman of Deer Park, Texas, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Coleman, her siblings: Arthur Bell Reeves, Ernest Coleman, Willie Mae Thompson, Lenny Merty "Tink" Ellis, Bernice Andress, James "Ball" Coleman, Jr. and Alice Faye Gates. She is also preceded in death by her grandson, Bryan Hebert.
