Margie Nell Wheeler 80, was born November 9, 1937 to James Henry Holmes and Annie Lee (Reynolds) Holmes. God called Mrs. Wheeler home on Sunday, February 25, 2018.

Margie Nell was born in Pennington, Texas.  She graduated from Pennington Schools in the 1950s.  She graduated with her bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin University and later with her master's degree from Sam Houston State University.  She married the love of her life, Robert Wheeler in Texas City in 1960.  Mrs. Wheeler worked for Texas City ISD for over thirty years in many facets.  She taught, coached and served as an administrator.  She loved working in the education system.  In 1994, Mrs. Wheeler retired, and she and Mr. Wheeler moved to Groveton.  Mrs. Wheeler taught Sunday school class at First Baptist Church in Groveton.  She was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association, Delta Kappa Gama, a former Lions Club member as well as a past member of Pennington Buyer's Group and the Trinity County Historical Society.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Groveton Funeral Home on Thursday, March 1, 2018.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in Pennington Cemetery in Pennington, Texas.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Pennington Community Center, Pennington Buyers Group or First Baptist Church of Groveton.

Mrs. Wheeler is preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Wheeler; parents, James Henry and Annie Lee Holmes; daughter, Donna Russo and son-in-law, Joseph Russo Jr., brothers, James Council Holmes, Malcolm Holmes, Calvin Lee Holmes, Billy Bob Holmes, Melvin Holmes and Walter Winston Holmes; sisters-in-law, Loretta Holmes, Mary Dee Holmes, Margaret Ann Holmes; brothers-in-law, James Reagan and Ennis Miller.

Her survivors include her daughter, Tina Sanders and husband, Karl Sanders of Willis, Texas; step-son, David Wheeler of Texas City, Texas; sister,  Martha Reagan of League City, Texas; brother, James Lewis and wife, Sheridan Holmes of Pennington, Texas; sister, Linda Miller of Pasadena, Texas; sister-in-law,Ola Mae Lowery of Pennington, Texas; grandchildren:  Joseph Russo of League City, Texas, Mitchell Russo and wife, Alison Russo of Houston, Texas, Dustin Sanders of Willis, Texas, Dylan Sanders of Houston, Texas; great-grandchild, Brenna Russo of Houston, Texas.
