Visitation for Lynn Marvin Thompson, age 76 of Groveton will begin Friday, October 20, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Groveton Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Dee Queen officiating. Interment will follow in Flat Prairie Cemetery at 8363 Groveton-Flat Prairie Road, Groveton, Texas.

Marvin passed from this world to Jesus Christ's side in heaven October 16, 2023, in Tyler, Texas.  He was born October 1, 1947, in Crockett, Texas. He was the son of Marvin Eldridge Thompson and Jeannette Smith Thompson Cook.
During the college years he worked as a veterinarian assistant for Dr. Dan Kelley. Dr. Kelley and his wife, Lorena became mentors and life-long friends.
After graduation from Sam Houston State University in 1970, he went to work for the construction company building the Georgia Pacific plywood mill in New Waverly. When construction was complete, he began his career in the plywood industry ultimately becoming an area manager with Louisiana Pacific.
Upon his retirement, he fulfilled his dream of returning to the farm life and being near family and friends in Trinity County. He enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing, gardening, and especially camping trips to Inks Lake State Park with family. For many years, he loved road trips to Colorado and the Texas Hill Country to enjoy the cool weather and beautiful scenery. When he returned to Trinity County, he joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church and was blessed to become a Deacon. He loved serving his church in several capacities, including teaching Sunday School. He was a loving and loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and great friend to many.
Marvin is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Eldridge Thompson; mother, Jeannette Smith Thompson Cook; sisters: Mary Nell Doyle and Freda Thompson; brothers: Dan Thompson and John Thompson.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy Jean Thompson of Groveton, TX; daughter, Angela Lynn Thompson and husband, Brian Dudek of Fort Collins, CO; son, Brandon Michael Thompson and wife, Joni Thompson of Cleveland, TX; grandchildren: Owen, Logan, Connor, Baya, and Harper; brother-in-law, Bill Doyle and wife, Bertha of Friday, TX; sisters-in-law: Joy Thompson of Flat Prairie, TX, Dorothy Thompson of Flat Prairie, TX, Mattie Dominy of Friday, TX, Nelda Gracia of Houston, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
