Obituary

Funeral services for Lucille Jones, 92 of the Friday community will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 2, in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with Brother Lewis Jones officiating and Brother James Anderson assisting. Burial will follow in Flat Prairie Cemetery in the Flat Prairie community. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Groveton Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 1. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations be made to the Friday Community Center building fund.

Lucille was born March 4, 1923 in the Old Willard community of Polk County and passed away on August 30, 2015 in Conroe. Mrs. Lucille was very active within the community. She was known for her cooking expertise with the Friday Buyers Group and the Friday Community Center. She also loved to garden. She was always willing to help others and she served on the board of Flat Cemetery Association as well as the board of Pennington Rural Water Supply. She was a member of Flat Prairie Methodist Church. Lucille was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and a friend to many.

She is survived by her two sons Sammy Jones and wife Mary Crow of Montgomery and Billy Jones of Groveton; brother William Paul McQueen and wife Nina of Pasadena; sister Lillian Purduha of Palestine; grandchildren Bryant Jones, Brad Jones and wife Jessalyn, Robert Jones and wife LeeAnne, Elizabeth Lemoine and husband Garrett; great grandchildren Ashlyn, Harley and Jackson Jones, Sam and Kylee Jones and Chloe' Lemoine; step children Brenda Overton, Phyllis Brockermeyer and husband Danny, Donnie Land and wife Regina and Ross Land and wife Carla; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jo and Doug Young and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Lucille is preceded in death by her parents, Carey and Pearl (Mansel) McQueen; husbands Sam Jones and Roy Land; grandson Brent Jones; two brothers Henry McQueen and C.W. McQueen and sister Mary Alice McQueen.

Pallbearers: Bryant Jones, Brad Jones, Robert Jones, Donnie McQueen, Jeff McQueen and David McQueen.
