Obituary

  1. Letha Mitchell, 90, of Pennington, Texas was called home to be with our Lord on June 4, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home in Pennington.

Letha was born and raised in Pennington, Texas.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and a great friend to many.  She loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed sitting outside in her yard under the big old tree and visiting with them.  She also loved to fish and attending church services as long as she was able.

Visitation for Mrs. Mitchell will begin at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2017 at Groveton Funeral Home in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Pennington with Reverend Cornelius Harvin officiating.  Burial will follow in Pennington Cemetery in Pennington, Texas.

Mrs. Mitchell is preceded in death by her father Elmer Lee; mother Lilly Horace Lee; husband Willie Lee Mitchell; daughter Georgia Lewis; son Roger Mitchell; granddaughter Mary Loyce Thompson; four brothers and six sisters.  Her survivors include her loving children: daughter Mary Horace of Pennington, Texas, son Willie D. Mitchell of Pennington, Texas, daughter Lizzie Dunn of Pennington, Texas, daughter Pauline Smith of Groveton, Texas and son Vernon Goeyns of Groveton, Texas; godchild Chris Sweat of Corrigan, Texas; grandchildren: Darrell Dunn and wife Celina Dunn, Hope Calvin, Nelson Dunn, Selwyn Hawthorne, David Hawthorne, Anna Harris, Andrea Hawthorne, Shawnetta Washington and husband Willie Washington, Justin Mitchell, Terrence Edwards, Cedric Edwards, Britteni Lewis, Cody Lewis, Ciara Horace, Candace Horace, Heather King and husband John King, Joseph Horace and Willie Horace; A host of great grandchildren; daughter-in- law Zettie Mitchell; daughter-in-law Vanessa Mitchell; special friend Lula Mae Wortham; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
