Julian Lee (Kittie) Magee, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 12, 2013, in Arlington, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Sunday, December 15, at Pennington Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Pennington Cemetery. She will be escorted to her final resting place by her pallbearers, Richard Arnold, Tyler Frost, Frank Searcy, Gary Magee, David Norsworthy and Brian Avery. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00 pm Saturday, December 14, at Groveton Funeral Home, Groveton, Texas.

Kittie was born March 28, 1923, in Pennington to Geneva and Dee Hughes, the second of four daughters. Kittie graduated from Pennington High School. At the age of twenty two, she married the love of her life, Fred Magee, on March 31, 1945. They lived a happy life together in Pennington and Groveton for twenty six years until 1971, when Fred died at the age of 49. Upon the loss of her beloved husband, Kittie returned to her birthplace to lovingly care for her mother, Geneva Hughes, until she passed in 1977. She worked as a loyal secretary at Dan Dominey Insurance in Groveton and Pete Julian Insurance in Crockett. She loved life and always made others smile with her sweet and kind personality. She rarely met a stranger, truly cared for others and always saw the best in every human being. This is most evident by her multitude of friends. She loved many things: travelling, fashion, reading, music, animals and gardening, but, above all, Kittie was most dedicated to her small town of Pennington and it's one and only church. The doors of Pennington Baptist Church were rarely open without her in attendance. She served her Lord faithfully by teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also served on several church committees. In addition, for many years she was the secretary for the Pennington Cemetery. If a vote were made for a mayor of Pennington, Kittie Magee would have won in a landslide.

The Lord did not bless Kittie and Fred with children, but how rich they both were in nieces and nephews who adored them unconditionally. Most summers were spent in a packed car with the Magee's hauling the three Arnold's, one Troutman, and four Holmes' children around Texas, complete with Fred's tough love and Kittie's soothing voice. Also, Kittie had an extremely close bond to her three sisters, Allie, Cora, and Mary. The four were inseparable, as only sister's experience.

The family gives tremendous thanks and appreciation to Castle Rock Assisted Living in Arlington, Texas, for the wonderful, loving care the nurses and staff gave Kittie for four years. Also, thanks to Always Better Care Hospice of Sherman, who assisted in Kittie's care in her final days.

Kittie was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Magee; parents, Geneva and Dee Hughes; sister, Cora Troutman; brothers-in-law Hugh Arnold, Sr. and E.C. Troutman; nephews, Leslie Holmes, Hugh Arnold, Jr.; great nephew, Chris Arnold. Those left behind to cherish her memory: sisters, Allie Arnold and Mary Holmes; brother-in-law, Bill Holmes; nieces, Judy Gonzalez, Linda Arnold, Deidra Holmes; nephews, Charles Arnold, Billy Holmes, Galen Holmes; four great nieces and five great nephews.
