Jimmy Smith, 72, of Lufkin, Texas, formerly of Groveton went to be with his Lord and Savior April 8, 2015 after his courageous battle with cancer. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Poage officiating and Bro. Lester McAdams assisting. Burial will follow at Holley Cemetery.
Jimmy was born January 10, 1943 in Groveton, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed being around people and getting to visit. He loved to work and he especially loved driving his big truck. He was employed with Kenny Trucking and thought very much of Kenny, Lonnie, Shane and Rod. Jimmy enjoyed his time working in law enforcement and being able to help serve his hometown community. In his younger years, he enjoyed going out to hunt hogs with his many friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Sidney Smith; mother, Margie Reed and son, Shannon "Bear" Smith.
His survivors include his wife, Betty Smith, of Lufkin; step-daughter, Kathy Norsworthy and husband, Wayne, of Groveton; step-son, Tommy Miller and wife, Jan, of Zavalla; step-son, Steve Miller, of Lufkin; step-daughter, Angela Flowers and husband, Richard, of Lufkin; daughter-in-law, Carlene Smith, of Lufkin; nine grandchildren; sister, Jean Carolyn Caveness, of Woodlake; brother, Mark Reed, of Huntsville; sister, Susie Baker, of Austin; numerous other relatives and friends, also survive.
