Jerry "Pete" Pruitt was born on November 24, 1941, in Crockett, Texas, to Woody Roland Pruitt and Sarah (Cook) Pruitt. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, in The Woodlands, Texas, on August 14, 2025, at the age of eighty-three.
Jerry proudly served in the United States Marines for several years. A hardworking man, he went on to build a career as the owner of his own business in concrete production. He was dedicated to his family and found immense joy in hosting numerous family gatherings throughout the years.
He also had many hobbies and interests that filled his life with joy. Jerry loved playing pool and always looked forward to weekly tournaments. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and fishing, passions that he carried throughout his lifetime.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Woody Roland Pruitt and Sarah Naomi Pruitt; his brother, Woody Roland Pruitt, Jr.; his spouse, Deborah Kay Matlock; and his nephew David Pruitt.
He is survived by his children: son, Jerry Pruitt and spouse, Shae Gambill; daughter, Tawnya Pruitt; grandchildren: Jackson Pruitt and wife, Lynsey, Meagan Moore and husband, Mason, Jake Pruitt, Macyn Balette and fiancé, Marcus Welker, Trenton Haygood, Jace Gambill, and Cort Gambill; great-grandchildren: Mina Pruitt, Kaymyn Balette, Maddie Moore, Trypp Snyder, Allyson Moore, Ellie Welker, Jasper Pruitt, Lauryn Pruitt, Camdyn Moore, Hollyn Welker, Harvey Welker, and Harlyn Welker; brother, Donnie Pruitt and wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Billie Pruitt; mother of his children, Teresa Pruitt; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive visitors beginning at 9:00 AM on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Flat Prairie Methodist Church until service time at 10:00 AM. Brother Michael Don Loftin will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Flat Prairie Cemetery in Groveton, Texas.
