Joe Dixie Anderson, Jr., known to all as J.D., was born in Friday, Texas on January 4, 1930. He passed away at the age of 85 in Lufkin, Texas on July 1, 2015. Pallbearers were family members, Vernell Anderson, Buster Anderson, Kenneth Smith, and Todd Smith. Funeral services were held at the Groveton Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2015. J.D. will be buried beside his parents at the Ellis Prairie Cemetery in Friday, Texas.

His parents were Joe D. Anderson, Sr. (Buster) and Cassie Harrison Anderson. J.D. was the youngest of 5 children; Fran, Lois, Verl, and Jessie were his siblings. J.D. attended school in the Friday community through the 8th grade. He farmed with his dad and stayed in the Friday area until the deaths of both his parents. J.D. moved to Houston where he worked for his brother, Fran, at his Texaco station until he began working for Harris County, Precinct 2, in March of 1980.

During his career at Precinct 2, J.D. was recognized as the Employee of the Month by Commissioner Jim Fonteno. In his recognition, it was noted that J.D. had worked for the county for almost two years at the time and that he had not missed a single working day. It stated that J.D. was in his early 50's and "has many an old story to tell. Other employees at the camp have no trouble getting along with him." It stated "that J.D. runs a mower and takes very good care of his equipment. He is always willing to help anyone and in any type of work. This man is proud to be a part of the Harris County, Pct. 2 working force."

J.D. worked at Precinct 2 in Houston until 1984 when he moved back to Trinity County to work for Cecil Webb, County Commissioner. J.D. was always proud to work for Mr. Webb and counted him among his closest friends. J.D. retired from Trinity County in 1995. He lived on the family's home place and enjoyed his dogs and cattle. He loved visiting with his friends, telling stories, and he always looked forward to good, country cooking. J.D. was baptized by Bro. Lewis Jones at the First Baptist Church in Groveton and all who knew J.D. would tell you that he was a good man and was a friend to many.

J.D. is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as many other friends and loved ones in this area.
