James Arthur Owens passed from this life into eternity on October 1, 2019 in Diboll, TX at the age of 76 years.  He was born in Groveton, TX on June 7, 1943, the son of Dock Owens and Addie Hobbs Owens.  He attended Groveton High School and later worked numerous jobs throughout the machinery industry.  He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.  James was a great friend and active within his community.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.  He loved to cook and was known for his great BBQ.  He always had a piece of candy or a dollar in his pocket for his grandchildren and doted on them all.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Dock and Addie Owens; brother, Bobby Ray Owens, sister, Linda Kay Robert; sister, Hazel Hambrick; brother-in-law, Bill Sullivan and a niece, Cathy Sullivan Oliver.  His survivors include his children:  son, James Owens and wife, Cheryl of Houston, TX; son, Larry Owens and wife, Cory of Warren, TX; son, Darrell Owens and wife, Jessica of Kingwood, TX and daughter, Krista Owens Thompson and husband, Jason of Lufkin, TX; brother, Dock Randall Owens and wife, Barbara; sister, Lois Sullivan Bryan and husband, Lloyd; brother, Donald Owens and wife, Kathy; brother, Charles Owens and wife, Sandra; grandchildren:  Robert Owens, Misty Thornton, Jonathan Owens, Stacy Polasek, Courtney Salazar, Mason Conner, Crystal Embury, Genevieve Purifoy, William Owens, Savannah Owens, Trystan Welch, Chance Welch and Cameron Ramirez;  great grandchildren:  Kyleigh Thornton, Caden Thornton, Gavin Owens, Joy Owens, Peyton Polasek, AJ Polasek, Kendra Ivie, Rylie Salazar, Kade Salazar and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2019 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, TX with Bro. Bueford Rogers officiating.  Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton, TX.  Mr. Owens will be escorted to his final resting place by his pallbearers:  Frankie Thornton, William Owens, Anthony Polasek, Randall Owens, Kevin Owens and Donald Owens.  Honorary pallbearer:  Charles Owens.
