In Loving Memory of James Manley Odom
November 7, 1932 – July 31, 2025
James Manley Odom was born on November 7, 1932, in Apple Springs, Texas, to Clarence Odom and Eva (Chapman) Odom. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, in Bedias, Texas.
Mr. Odom proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. After his military service, he learned the trade of electrical work and became a master electrician. He later founded his own business, Odom Electric, which he operated successfully for twenty-five years.
In his younger years, James enjoyed hunting and had a lifelong passion for football. He had a deep love for working the land and raising cattle, maintaining a cattle operation for over fifty years. Whether working in the pasture or tending to his garden, he found joy in being outdoors, especially if he was on his beloved John Deere tractor. He also treasured the time spent sitting on the porch, "visiting at the bottom" with friends and family during hunts, sharing stories and laughter.
James was a devoted family man and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he found strength and comfort in his faith.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Odom; his parents, Clarence and Eva Odom; his brother, Wayne Odom; his grandson, BJ Odom; and his daughter-in-law, Theresa Odom.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Ronald C. Odom of Bedias, Texas, and Randy L. Odom and wife, Bonnie, of the Nogales Prairie Community; two granddaughters, Leann Gonzales and husband, Rick Gonzales, and Nicole Odom Farrar and husband, Terry Farrar, Jr.; as well as numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lois Odom of Apple Springs, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Burketown/Odom Family Cemetery in Apple Springs, Texas, with Bro. James Whittlesey officiating.
Pallbearers: Jason Ripkowski, James Ripkowski, James Porter Lewis, Myles Prothro, Charlie Jones, Patrick Jones, and James Anderson.
