James Autry Nash, Sr. passed from this life into eternity on October 26, 2019 in Apple Springs, TX at the age of 77 years. He was born in Lovelady, TX on February 28, 1942, the son of JC Nash and Helen Burke Mess.

James was truly a "one of a kind." He enjoyed meeting new people and making new friendships. He was known as a "jokester" by his family and he loved to give people a hard time. If he didn't pick on you then you probably knew where you stood. He loved to be outdoors, and he especially loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed taking the grandchildren out on camping trips every summer. He also was an avid knife and gun collector. James met the love of his life, Carolyn Gibson in Houston, TX and they were married on April 2, 1965. They enjoyed traveling together and creating new memories.

Mr. Nash is preceded in death by his father, JC Nash; mother, Helen Mess; two brothers, William Sidney Nichols "Butch" and Lynn Nash and a sister, Mary Evie Dillard. His survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn Nash of Apple Springs, TX; daughter, Ethel Marie Benton of Palestine, TX; son, James Autry Nash, Jr. and wife, Michelle of La Porte, TX; daughter, Jammie Marie Nash of Tyler, TX; sister, Samantha LaSalle of Huntington, TX; sister, Minnie Humphreys of Willis, TX; sister, Penny Peale of Bryan, TX; brother, Jack Nichols; grandchildren: Carolyn Laverne Walston of Palestine, TX; Pamela Joyce Traylor of Palestine, TX; JC Walston of Palestine, TX; Travis William Walston and wife, Hayle of Palestine, TX; Hunter Nash of Huntington, TX and Brandyn Nash of Lufkin, TX; great grandchildren: Kinzley Walston of Palestine, TX and Jayden Traylor of Palestine, TX and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, TX with Pastor Michael Sims officiating, and burial will follow in Trevat Cemetery. Mr. Nash will be escorted to his final resting place by his pallbearers: James A. Nash, Jr., JC Walston, Chris Nash, Mo Nash, Ed Gibson and Sambo Elrod. Honorary Pallbearers are Brent Owen Hyde, Frank Gibson and John Burch, Jr.
