James Lewis Holmes of Pennington, Texas, was born on July 15,1945 in Pennington, TX to Annie (Reynolds) Holmes and James Henry Holmes and went to his eternal home on June 22, 2021, at the age of 75 years in Lufkin, TX.
James was continually active throughout his life. He loved to hunt especially deer and hogs. He also loved driving his tractor, farming, ranching, and taking care of his garden. James loved to spend time with his grandchildren, and he especially enjoyed visiting with friends, and extended family.
James is survived by his loving Wife, Sheridan Holmes of Pennington, TX; Son, Kevin Holmes and wife, Brenda of Friday, TX; Daughter, Karen Little and husband, Clay of Weldon, TX; Stepson, Matthew Rivers, and wife, Fallon of Pennington, TX; Stepson, Russell Rivers and wife, Taylor of Pennington, TX; Grandchildren: Cody Holmes, Ashley Holmes, Mikala Rivers, Ryder Rivers, Jade Rivers, and Marissa Rivers; Great Grandchild: Laynie Holmes; Sister, Linda Miller of Pasadena, TX., Sister, Martha Reagen of Pasadena, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, James and Annie Holmes, Brothers: Calvin Lee Holmes, Critt Holmes and wife, Loretta, Malcom Holmes, Melvin Holmes and wife, Margaret, Billy Bob Holmes and wife, Mary Dee, and Winston Holmes;
Sister, Margie Nell Wheeler and husband, Robert Wheeler, Brothers-in-law: James Reagen, and Ennis Miller.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 24, 2021, beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, TX. Funeral services will be Friday, June 25,2021 at the Groveton Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 10:00 a.m. interment will be in the Pennington Cemetery in Pennington, TX.
Pallbearers: Buddy Smith, Clay Little, James Moore, Norman Jarvis, Dwayne Miller, and James Earl Rosser.
