James Larry Colvin of Houston, formally of Groveton, Texas was born on December 10, 1935, in Shreveport, Louisiana to James Levell Colvin and Mildred Eva Nyegaard and passed away to his eternal home after a tragic fall on November 17, 2021, at the age of 85 years with his loving family by his side.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia Colvin, daughter: Cathy Ethridge and husband, Mickey; son: James Landon Colvin and wife, Sandra Shaver; grandchildren: Lisa Miley, Kimberly Ethridge, Matthew Ethridge; sister-in-law Janice Colvin, and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, James Colvin and Mildred Vyverman Colvin; and brothers: Johnny Wayne Colvin, and Kenneth Roger Colvin.
Larry served in the Naval Reserves for many years and was called into active duty by the Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was assigned to the USS Wren and visited many countries during his tour of duty. After his retirement in law enforcement, he became an active lifetime member of the Eastern Star #284 where he held various positions including Worshipful Master. He also was a member of First Baptist Church of Groveton for over 20 years before moving to Houston to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 2021, at the Groveton Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services for Mr. Colvin will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Groveton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Lewis Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Glendale Cemetery.
