Irene Collins Oakley Lowery was born February 25, 1930 in Crockett, TX to Ira Collins and Lilly Mae Kennedy Collins and was called to her eternal home on September 19, 2020 in Longview, TX at the age of 90 years.
Irene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She started school as a child in Trinity, TX and graduated from Groveton Highschool in 1948. Irene was a past twirler in Groveton Band and she enjoyed watching sports. Her favorite teams to watch were Groveton Indian High School football, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs. She enjoyed going on shopping trips with her girls, playing Canasta with a lady's group that began in 1952, going out to dinner, and watching old vintage movies. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Groveton and was regularly active with the church throughout the years past. She was also a member of the Groveton OES Chapter #1035 and Groveton Ex Students Association.
Mrs. Oakley-Lowery is survived by her loving daughters, Denise Douglas Whiddon and husband, Winston and Dolores Oakley Nevins and husband, Scott; step-daughter, Liz Steege and husband, Brian; stepson, Leonard Lowery; grandchildren: Rebekah-Jo and husband, Matt Langley, Aaron Whiddon and fiancé, Amber Cheatwood, Haley Hicks and husband, Tyler Hicks, Layne Bronstad and husband, Joe; nine great grandchildren: Landry and Ty Langley, Aubreigh and Trevor Whiddon, Griffin, Piper, Pruitt, and Puritan Hicks, and Emerson Jolee Bronstad; special friend, Frances Worsham and family and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Jake Douglas; second husband, Robert Oakley; son, James Oakley; third husband, L.D. Lowery; sister, Maydelle Mills and nephew, Steven Mills.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Groveton, TX with Bro. Lewis Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton, TX.
She will be escorted to her final resting place by her pallbearers: Tiger Worsham, Benny McClain, Joe Scott Evans, Randy Mills, Scott Mills and Robby Richey.
