Obituary for Horace Leonard "Lynn" Carr, Jr.
Horace Leonard "Lynn" Carr, Jr. was born on July 2, 1944, in La Porte, Texas, to Horace Leonard Carr, Sr. and Lula (Bullock) Carr. He passed away on February 11, 2025, in Huntsville, Texas, at the age of eighty years.
Mr. Carr proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he was stationed on the Carrier Roosevelt. Upon completing his active duty, he transferred to Reserves. For his dedicated service, Mr. Carr received the National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal.
Lynn grew up in La Porte, Texas, and graduated from La Porte High School as part of the class of 1962. He was a talented football player during his high school years before enlisting in the Navy.
On September 6, 1964, Mr. Carr married the love of his life, Charlene (Law). They shared thirty-three wonderful years together before her passing in 1997. In 1978, they moved to the Glendale Community, where they raised their two amazing sons.
Mr. Carr was a devoted fifty-year member of the Joe Werner Lodge #553. He worked in the heating and cooling industry, specializing in AC and refrigeration, until his well-earned retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling across the United States, with road trips being one of his favorite pastimes.
He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Leonard Carr, Sr.; his mother, Lula Carr; his loving wife, Charlene Carr; his son, Terry Carr; and his brothers, Joe Kenny Carr, and Raymond Earl Carr.
Mr. Carr is survived by his son, Tommy Carr; grandsons, Garrett Carr, Gunner Jake Carr, Gavin Alexander Carr, and Clay Carr; and his daughter by choice, Janet Bass. He also leaves behind numerous other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services for Horace Leonard "Lynn" Carr, Jr. will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 10:30 AM in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Don Loftin officiating. A private burial will take place later in Thornton Church Cemetery.
