Helen Juliet Smith Odom was born in Shelby County, Texas on April 30, 1938 to Ezra and Lois Chandler Smith.  She passed away on December 26, 2018 in Livingston, Texas at the age of 80 years.

Mrs. Odom was a wonderful woman who loved to live life to its fullest.  She loved many things about her life, but her family was her greatest joy.  She enjoyed spending much of her time with her grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren.  She also loved to sew and to garden.  She belonged to the Eastern Star Lodge #1003.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and Lois Smith; two brothers, James Edward Smith "Buck" and Alec Smith and a sister, Ollie Mae Day.  Her survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Joe Odom of Shepherd, TX; daughter, JoAnn Schelski and husband, Robert Schelski of Houston, TX; sisters, Betty Havard of Diboll, TX; Lucille Jones of Diboll, TX; Mary Virginia Grissom of San Antonio, TX; grandsons, Robert Schelski, Jr. of Dallas, TX; Joseph Schelski of Houston, TX; Michael Schelski of Conroe, TX; ten great grandchildren and a host of special nieces, nephews and other beloved relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Lester McAdams officiating services that begin at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in Thornton Cemetery in Trinity, TX.
