Glenn (Pete)
Sidney Hammond, Sr.
Jul 10, 1923 — Sep 15, 2018
Groveton
On September 15, 2018 we lost our father, our hero, our veteran, Glenn S. Hammond, Sr. He was known as Pete to his family.
Pete's parents are Addie (Glenn) and Adam Hammond. They welcomed their second child, born on July 10, 1923. He was born in a sod house in the sand hills of Broken Bow, Nebraska.
Pete had 15 siblings and he leaves behind one surviving brother, Joe, from Essex, Iowa.
Pete served in the US Army during WWII from 1942 -1946 in the Philippines. While in the service he learned the tools of his life's trade…being a mechanic and a truck driver.
Pete married Patricia Ann Clark in 1948 and they had 4 children: 2 daughters, Susan (Balette) and Cathy (Kosina), and 2 sons, Philip and Glenn, Jr. Later, Patricia passed away in 1980.
Pete married Virginia Little (1999) and relocated to Woodlake, TX., where he's lived until his death.
Pete was a humble and opinionated man. He had his own unique point of view how things should be. He was a staunch believer of the true value of hard work. He led that belief by always living that example. Pete valued his family and always placed them above all things.
Pete was an honored guest on the Lone Star Honor Flight #3 in 2008. Honor flights for WWII veterans were organized by the Montgomery ISD and flown to Washington D.C. to visit the War Memorial Park, Viet Nam memorial wall, and Arlington National Cemetery as guests of the Honor Flight organization. Pete was among the WWII veterans who met every Wednesday in Conroe at 105 Storage as guests for coffee and chatting. Pete looked forward to Wednesdays!
Pete is survived by his daughters, Susan Balette and Cathy Kosina, her husband James; son, Glenn Jr. and his wife Susie; several grandchildren, Mark, Stephanie, Jacques, Jason, Jeff, Michael, Juliette, Jeremy, Stacey, Justin, Sidney, and Chad; great grandchildren, Sierra, McKinley, Carley, Dustyn, Tyler, Samantha, Meagan, Macyn, Elizabeth, Max, Brett, Chloe, Jacques Henry, Forrest, Charlotte, Brooke, Fia, Meredith, Hudson, Nolan, Mia, Jackson, Wyatt and Stormy; great-great grandsons, Kaymyn and Bentley; and great- great granddaughter, Aili.
Pete was also preceded in death by son, Philip in 2013, daughter in law, Carla in 1994 and grandson Clay, in 2017.
The family of Glenn Hammond would like to thank the Groveton Nursing home and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and dedication of our father.
