George Wilburn Willis, age 93, of Onalaska, Texas, formerly of Groveton, Texas was born in Mountain View, Oklahoma and passed away on February 5, 2019. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 7 PM Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Groveton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 10, 2019 at 2 PM in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with Reverend Lester McAdams officiating. Burial will follow in Bennett Cemetery in Apple Springs, Texas. Mr. Willis will be escorted to his final resting place by his pallbearers, Tim Etie, Walter Etie, Mike Holland, Kirk Schellhase, Michael Mullins, and Chase Holland.
Mr. Willis was a faithful member of Oaklawn Baptist Church growing up and it was there he received his baptismal. He joined the Navy in 1943 and served during WWII. After exiting the Navy in 1946, Mr. Willis started out learning the welding trade and became part owner of Magnolia Welding Supply in Houston, Texas. He and his wife Clarice Willis retired in 1980 to Lake Livingston in Onalaska, Texas. George was an avid golfer and loved to fish.
Mr. Willis is preceded in death by his father, James Polk Willis who died in 1936 and mother Penola Kennedy Willis who died in 1993 and six siblings. Penola married again to Roy C. Perkins. They had three daughters. George is survived by his brother Rusty Willis and three half-sisters Mary Lou Perkins, Mary Sue Perkins and Betty Joe Perkins. He is also survived by his daughters La Nell Willis Holland and Mary (Beth) Willis Schellhase. He has five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
