Gary Lynn Magee, age 78, was born on October 8, 1942 to Nathan Gary and Mable Mae Trawick Magee in Pennington, Texas and traded in his earthly home for a heavenly mansion on March 30, 2021 in Lufkin Texas. He was a proud Pennington Red Devil until consolidation when he became a faithful Groveton Indian. He joined the US Army in 1964 where he served as an MP in the U.S. Army Pacific, receiving the NDSM, National Defense Service Medal. He returned to Trinity County in 1966 and became a salesman for McDonald Chevrolet. Gary next worked for TDC, now known as TDCJ and worked at the Eastham Unit until retirement. Upon retirement, Gary was extremely community minded.

Gary worked for sixteen years as an ECA with the Groveton EMS and served thirty-eight years with Groveton VFD. He also served sixteen years as a board member for Trinity County Senior Citizens Center and as an advisor for Houston County Electric Cooperative. Gary served as a Board Member of Pennington Cemetery Association several years then as President for the past twelve years.

Gary travelled near and far to attend Blue Grass Concerts, Rodeos and to watch school sports. His favorite was basketball and softball. He was the faithful Groveton Indian and Lady Indian fan but he also travelled to watch College basketball, Lovelady, Latexo, Crockett and other area teams. The young ladies chosen as pall bearers are Gary's chosen area players. He truly found joy watching these young athletes on the court, the track or the softball field.

Gary is survived by his son Paul Magee of Groveton and Paul's mother Connie Weidner and their four grandchildren, Maegan, Jason, Kaylin and Kason Magee and one great grandson Carter Magee. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Gary and Mable Mae Trawick Magee, twin brothers, Dudley and Douglas 'Sam' Magee and two sons, Warren Lynn and James Nathan 'Jim' Magee.

Gary was a big hearted, wonderful, caring father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who had the biggest smile and always showed total and unconditional love. This Irish saying is so true: Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

Gary was, until illness overtook him, a faithful member of Pennington Baptist Church. Brother Bud Magee and Brother Drew Scott will officiate services.

Visitation will be held at Groveton Funeral Home, 1019 W First Street Groveton from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00P.M.  Saturday April 3,2021. Funeral services for Gary will be held on Saturday April 3,2021at 1:00p.m. at the Groveton Funeral Home with internment at the Pennington Cemetery, Trinity County, Texas.
