Funeral services for Fred Maxey will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas with Dr. David Brooks of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will precede the service. Committal service will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan, Texas.

Fred Maxey, 75, of Alexandria passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014 at him home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred R. Maxey, Sr. and Wesley Maxey.

Fred R. Maxey, Jr. was born in Houston, Texas on December 7, 1938. He graduated Galena Park High School in 1957 and later attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas and the University of Houston. Fred served his country in the United States Navy prior to staring his career as a mechanical engineer. He worked for Cooper Cameron in Houston, TX, Sealy, TX, and Ville Platte, LA, retiring in 2002 after 34 years.

Fred was a loving husband to his wife Lucille for over 50 years. He was a beloved father to his sons John and Daniel and grandfather to his granddaughters. Fred was a talented musician, artist, world traveler, voracious reader, amateur inventor, gunsmith, hunter, fisherman and humorist. A man of strong moral character, he was also quite a character himself. He loved life and his family above all.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Lucille Taylor Maxey of Alexandria; sons, John R. Maxey (Angel), and Daniel T. Maxey (Leigh Ann); sisters Lyndell McLain, Connie Cavness and husband Doug, and Kathy Maxey; grandchildren Taylor Ann, Sarah Grace, Madisyn Danielle, and Carrie Elizabeth Maxey.
