Frances was born February 26, 1927 in Cuero, TX to Martin and Nonie Schultea. God called Frances home on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the age of 93 years in Lufkin, TX.
She played the drums in the Black Battalion Drum and Bugle Choir at Sam Houston high school and Frances also belonged to a bowling league. She was an avid painter and artist. She enjoyed traveling and going on family vacations, square dancing and she especially enjoyed hosting yearly family Easter egg hunts at her home. Frances was also a lifetime member of the Trinity VFW and a member of the First United Methodist church of Groveton where she loved to sing in the choir. Frances also enjoyed helping to serve the community by delivering "meals on wheels" with the Groveton Senior Center until her health would no longer allow.
Mrs. Shepherd is survived by her children, sons: Kenneth Byers and wife, Gail Byers of Huntsville, TX and Wayne Byers and wife, Connie Byers of Groveton, TX; sister, Billie Jo Maguire of Houston, TX; brothers: Jack Schultea and wife, Cecilia Schultea of Houston, TX and Lacy Schultea and wife, Barbara Schultea of Austin, TX; grandchildren: Cari Daniel and husband, Frank, Kent Byers and wife, Kelsey, Tiffany Jones and husband, David, Sarah Allen and husband, Kyle, Traci Steelman and husband, Daniel, Christopher Byers and fiancé, Monica; 8 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Brett Byers; parents, Martin Schuletea and Nonie Schultea; 1st husband, Clarence D. Byers; 2nd husband, James Shepherd, and sister, Bernece Ellington.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton, TX on Saturday, April 25, 2020 with Rev. Jack McMahon officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning prior to services also at Glenwood Cemetery.
