Eustace "Smokey" Butler, 91, of Groveton, Texas was called home to be with our Lord on June 9, 2017 surrounded by his family at his daughter's home in Lufkin, Texas.
Smokey was born and raised in the Helmic Community of Trinity County. He later married the love of his life Emmer Graham and they raised their family on their little farm in Groveton, Texas. He was an extremely talented man and loved to play the fiddle. He could play any stringed instrument. He had a natural gift to being a musician. He also was an artist. He enjoyed oil paintings and was known by his family as "Mr. Fix It" because he could fix anything when it came to repairs. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to many.
Visitation for Mr. Butler will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Groveton Funeral Home with Charles Seale officiating. Burial will follow in Ivie Cemetery in Kennard, Texas.
Mr. Butler is preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Laura(Bain) Butler; his wife Emmer Butler; sisters: Pearl Maddox, Irene Vaughn and Agnes Graham; two brothers Elver and Edgar "Bain" Butler and a son-in-law Robert J. Elliott. His survivors include his children: son Edgar Butler of Groveton, daughter Patricia Butler Elliott of Lufkin; daughter Cindy Kendrick and husband Bo Kendrick of Groveton, and son Terry Butler of Groveton; grandchildren: Stephanie Sims, Kieth Elliott, Angela Thomas and Zeth Kendrick; great grandchildren: Grace Elizabeth Elliott, Hayden Thomas, Davney Kendrick, Nathan Graham Elliott and Iain Kendrick; sister Lillie Freeman, formerly of Pennington, of Sherman; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
