Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Smith, 78 of Groveton, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2nd, 2016 with Pastor Lonnie Valance officiating in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton, Texas. Visitation will be held Thursday evening at Groveton Funeral Home beginning at 6:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Ethel was born June 26th, 1938 in Hanover, Virginia and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 29th, 2016 in Lufkin, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Vera Pope; her husband of 42 years William J. Smith; daughter Sheryl Jarvis; son William J. Smith, Jr.; and son-in-law Randle Clark Key.
Ethel worked numerous jobs throughout her career. She most enjoyed her role of being a parent and she loved to spend time with her family but she especially enjoyed being a grandmother and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ethel loved to go to church and live her life for the Lord. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and on numerous occasions she and her late husband William were known to travel just to play. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved all children and enjoyed being able to mentor them any time that she was able.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her children: daughter Dede Coleman and husband Barry of Ohio, daughter Patience Marie Key and boyfriend Andy Lambert of Spring, Texas, son Keith William Jarvis and wife Trisha of Tomball, Texas, daughter Deborah Horne and husband Billy of San Augustine, Texas, son David Smith and wife Stephanie of Groveton, Texas, and daughter Danette Allen and husband Chris of Groveton; her brother Dale Pope and his wife Frances of Culpeper, Virginia; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Pallbearers: Chris Allen, Christopher Key, Keith Jarvis, Darrell Jarvis, Andy Lambert, Greg Oliver and Tyler Allen.
Honorary Pallbearers: David Smith, Barry Coleman and Billy Horne.
