Edward Jonce Jones, 92, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in Groveton, Texas. He was born in Cherokee County to Lucy Burns & Edd Jones.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Mae Cockrell Jones. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Hubert, David Ralph and Raymond.
He is survived by his son Gary Jones and wife June of Brazoria, Texas; his son Mark Jones and wife Donna of Groveton, Texas; his son Bret Jones of Brazoria, Texas; his son Keith Jones and wife Kellie of Kingwood, Texas; and his daughter Robin Jones of Lake Jackson, Texas.
He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren: Keisha Jones, Daulton Jones, Callan Hurst, Kala Danford, Emily Jones, Lindsay Jones, Jordan Jones and Jackson Jones. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter Peyton Jones. He is also survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
This World War II veteran served proudly in the U.S. Army for four years and saw action in North Africa, Italy, France, Austria and Germany. He was a part of the Texas 36th Division.
He planted roots in Lake Jackson shortly after World War II with his bride Dorothy. He was a pipefitter with Dow Chemical for 37 years before retiring. He was active in Local 390 Plumbers & Pipefitters Union having joined in 1949. He was also a member of the 36th Division Association.
Edward was recently honored by the Brazoria County Calvary for his service in World War II. Texas House of Representative Dennis Bonnen was on hand to present a flag to Edward. The flag had flown over the state capitol building in his honor.
Pallbearers are Daulton Jones, Callan Hurst, Clint Cockrell, Dody Belknap, Chris Aiken and Tracy Cockrell.
Honorary pallbearers are Jordan Jones, Jackson Jones, Burlon Williford and Murray Stasney.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a military charity of your choice.
Visitation is set for 10:30am-12pm Monday, September 23 at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute, Texas. A memorial service follows at 12pm.
Graveside visitation is 9-10am Tuesday, September 24 followed by funeral and burial at 10am at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville, Texas. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Groveton Funeral Home.
