Edna Elizabeth Rau Chapman was born on February 27, 1924 in West, TX, the daughter of Lawrence C. and Pearl Myer Rau and passed away March 22, 2018 in Groveton, TX.
She graduated from Edison High School in San Antonio, TX in 1942. Married Thomas Kelly Chapman Sr., September 12, 1942 at Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio, TX. After years of moving around with her husband in his Army career, they settled in Groveton, TX in 1956.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Groveton, TX, Scrub Creek Baptist Church in Crecy, TX where she was the church secretary for many years and finally a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church until her death.
She was a founding member of Groveton Eastern Star Chapter 1035 OES for many years. She was a past Worthy Matron, District and State Deputy of the Eastern Star.
She was a member of the Groveton Reading Club, Japonica Garden Club. In addition, a member of many organizations of Groveton ISD in support of her children and a past secretary for numerous years of Moore Cemetery Association. But most of all was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all.
Funeral services for Edna Elizabeth Rau Chapman will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Baptist Church Hwy 94 Groveton, TX with
Bro. Lester McAdams and Bro. Newton Hambrick officiating. Interment will be in Moore Cemetery in Trinity County, Texas. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Groveton Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence C. and Pearl M. Rau; husband, Thomas Kelly Chapman, Sr.; sister, Namoi Lou Franks and grandson, Donald Kelly Chapman.
Mrs. Chapman is survived by daughter, Sarah Sue and husband, Robert Davis of Carthage, MS; sons, Donald L and wife, Susan Chapman of Kissimmee, FL, Fredie Chapman and Darrell Reynolds of Apple Springs, TX, Thomas Kelly, Jr. and wife, Betty Chapman of Tarkington Prairie, TX, Robert David and wife, Bette Chapman of Lakeworth, TX; grandchildren: Melissa and Michael Duke of Philadelphia, MS, Deanna Chapman and David Pompa of Peoria, AZ, Jonathan and Sarah Conner of Groveton, TX, Abbie Chapman of Arlington, TX, Patricia Gilley of Porter, TX, Thomas Andrew Chapman of Tarkington Prairie, TX, Laura and Jimmy Hicks of Mansfield, TX, Luke and Faith Chapman of Benton, AR; 2 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; 2 step-great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and family members of Oaklawn Baptist Church; adopted daughter, Rita Parker of Groveton, TX; adopted son and daughter, Lynn and Wayne Reynolds of Groveton, TX; adopted daughter and son, Dona Sue and David Ford of Groveton, TX; adopted daughter and son, Christy and Tony LeBlanc of Groveton, TX.
