Earl Samuel "Sammy" Smith was one of ten children. He born October 20, 1945 while his mother, Katherine Smith was out working in the cotton fields in Blanchard, TX. She sent Earl's brother to fetch for his father, James Smith to let him know that she had gone into labor and when they arrived, they were surprised with the arrival of twins. Sammy was called to his eternal home on August 24, 2020 at his home in Lovelady, TX at the age of 74 years.

Sammy was a loyal employee for Texas Highway Department for over 20 years. In his spare time, he loved to hunt and fish. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Smith is survived by his loving daughter, Cynthia Diana Smith Gonzalez and husband, Victor Gonzalez of Groveton, TX; grandchildren: Cordell Rapoza and wife, Chelsea of Nacogdoches, TX, Rafael, Ramiro and Aurora Gonzalez of Groveton, TX; step-daughter, April Shank of Groveton, TX; step-sons: Daniel Whitworth of Groveton, TX and Adam Whitworth of Louisiana; step-grandchildren: Colton, Lane and Warren Shank of Groveton, TX, Alex, James, Marcus and Dana Whitworth of Groveton, TX, Jared of Liberty, TX and Corey of Louisiana; siblings: brother, Johnny Smith of Trinity, TX; brother, Ronnie Smith of Trinity, TX; sister, Earline Sullivan of Trinity, TX; sister, Irene Patterson of Grapeland, TX; mother of daughters and special friend, Norma Jean Smith of Groveton, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Deborah Ann Smith; parents, James Lonzo Smith and Katherine (Smith) Smith; sisters: Faye McFarland, Pauline Whitehead, and Doren Foster; brothers: Haywood Smith and Lonnie Smith and wife, Josephine Baggwell Smith.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 5, 2020 beginning at 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, TX. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, September 6, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Dee Queen officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton, TX.
