Funeral Services for Dorothy Louise Folkens Thornton, 72, of Groveton, Texas will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 26, 2015 in the First Baptist Church of Groveton with Bro. Davis Thornton officiating and Bro. Lewis Jones assisting. Interment will follow the services in Chita Cemetery. She will be escorted to her final resting place in Chita Cemetery by her pallbearers, Brice Due, Kurt Thornton, Kevin Thornton, Matthew Davis, Justin McClaugherty, Michael Cornelius and Dustyn Leonard. Honorary pallbearers are Leonard Lucas, Arnold Winkler and Roberto Luna. Visitation for Mrs. Thornton will begin at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Groveton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thornton was born on December 5, 1942 in Rosenberg, Texas to the late Rudolf and Lillie (Hinze) Folkens and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at her home in Groveton, Texas. Dorothy was a graduate of Lamar High in Rosenberg. She only worked for a short while outside of her home and spent the rest of her life as a devoted wife and mother. She was an avid seamstress and she also liked to garden. She enjoyed teaching children about God for at least thirty years. She served as secretary of First Baptist Church of Groveton for about ten years and later helped others at Open Door Mission in Crockett. Her love for the Lord and her family were second to none.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rudolf Folkens and Lillie (Hinze) Folkens. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Davis Clinton Thornton, of Groveton, Texas; children, daughter, Cindy Due and husband, Michael Due, of Groves, Texas; daughter, Sandra Owens and husband, Charles Owens, of Groveton, Texas; son, Bryan Thornton and wife, Jennifer Thornton, of Groveton, Texas; brother, Rudolf Folkens and wife, Louise Folkens; brother, Eric Folkens and wife, Mary Folkens; sister, Betty McCreary and husband, Lew McCreary; grandchildren, Crystle McClaugherty and husband, Justin McClaugherty, Brice Due and wife, Kristen Due, Sarah Cornelius and husband, Michael Cornelius, Charla Owens, Cindy Davis, Kurt Thornton, Kevin Thornton, Emily Due, Matthew Davis; great grandchildren, Westin Cornelius and Kaylie Due and a host of nieces, nephews and other loved ones and friends.

Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Mission Fund, Hospice in the Pines or American Cancer Society.
