Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy Frances Delk Smith, 87, of Jefferson, Texas, formerly of Groveton and Huntsville, Texas left this world on June 27, 2017 in Longview, Texas.  Dorothy was born November 23, 1929 in Neches, Texas.  She was one of six children born to Naoma Abernathy Delk and Seaburn D.  Delk.  Dorothy loved to spend time with her family.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life and she was so looking forward to the arrival of her newest great grandchild baby Linegar.  She especially loved to attend the annual family gatherings and being updated on what was happening throughout their lives.  She loved to cook as well as being outdoors and feeding all wildlife.  She was an avid bird watcher and she loved spending time with her dog Emma.  She also enjoyed sewing and quilting.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many.  She attended church services and belonged to the church family of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church until she was no longer able.

Visitation for Mrs. Smith will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017 in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home until 8:00 p.m.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Groveton Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Dobbs of Pine Island Baptist Church officiating.  Burial will follow in Flat Prairie Cemetery in Pennington, Texas.

Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Emmett Smith, Jr.; parents Naoma Abernathy Delk and Seaburn D. Delk; two brothers: Doyle Delk, Sr. and John Delk and her three sisters: Joyce Hensley, Edith McRae and Dovie Lee.  Left to celebrate her life are her loving son, David Emmett Smith and wife Debbie Smith; grandchildren: Garrett Smith and wife Alana Smith, Landon Smith and wife Lori Smith, Mendy Beth Linegar and husband Andy Linegar; great grandchildren:  Gunter Smith, Allie Smith and Liam Linegar and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
