Memorial services for Mr. Donnis Alton Wars, 71 of Trinity, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2nd, 2016 with Brother Bueford Rogers officiating in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas.
Don was born October 28th, 1944 in Groveton, Texas and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 30th, 2016 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer at his home in Trinity. He is preceded in death by his father J.C. Wars.
Don was an extremely hard worker. Before retirement his most memorable times in the work force was his 17 years that he spent in the Merchant Marines where he worked as an engineer on the naval ships. His training included Marine operations, chemical biological/radiological defense and small armed weaponry and demolition. His ship was first responder deployed after Katrina. His earlier years he spent in the logging industry. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved being able to teach them how to properly use guns and practicing there shooting skills. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved anything that required being outdoors. He often enjoyed going out to the lake or to the local creeks and doing a little fishing. He also enjoyed hunting or doing a little "gold" mining with his brothers. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather.
Don is survived by his loving wife Fay Wars of Trinity; his children: son Anthony Wars and wife Tammie of Pennington, son Shanon Wars and wife Jolynn of Groveton, son Cory Wars of Groveton; step-children: son Randy Castleberry of Bay City, daughter Rhonda Taylor and husband Scott of Trinity, daughter Theresa Gallagher and husband George of Trinity; mother Emma Wars of Groveton; grandchildren: Derek Cotrone, Jake Duke, Cody Duke, Jessica Parker and husband Ricky, Josh Holmes and wife Kristi, Justin Wars, Brent Wars and girlfriend Anna Raines, Tori Wars, Donnis Wars, Paula Clark and husband John, Bethany David and husband Dustin, Kaycee Castleberry; numerous great grandchildren; brother Ricky Wars and wife Pat of Pennington; brother Larry Wars and wife Phyllis of Groveton; sister Sherry Delk and husband Doyle of Groveton; sister Sharon Brister and husband Billy of Trevat and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
