Donna Sue Dwire Welker was born on June 27, 1944 in Lufkin, TX, the daughter of Thomas and Laura (Stephenson) Dwire and passed away peacefully at her home on March 29, 2018 in Groveton, TX.

Donna was a fun-loving person.  She was active throughout her school years where she held the spot as drum major for the Groveton Indian High School Band.  She graduated from Groveton in the Class of 1962.  Later, she attended a nursing program in Beaumont, TX where she became a Registered Nurse and met the love of her life Larry Welker.  They were married January 16, 1970 in Groveton, TX.  She and her husband had two children together, a son and a daughter, who all found love and stayed near their parents for many years.  Donna was the first Director of Nurses at Groveton Hospital and Nursing Home.  She organized the first Ladies Auxiliary for the Groveton Volunteer Fire Department and held the position as president until the organization disbanded.  She loved to help people.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and a friend to many.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Groveton Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton, TX with Bro. Neil Kemper officiating.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Laura Dwire; brother, Gene Dwire and a grandson, Tuff Jennings Welker.  Her survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Larry Welker of Groveton, TX; daughter, Donnie Ward of Groveton, TX; son, Tommy Welker and wife, Brandy Welker of Livingston, TX; sister, Cora Lisbeth Evans and husband, Bob Evans of Springhill, LA; grandchildren:  Payton Young and Clint Hamilton of Livington, TX, Marcus Welker of Livingston, TX, Paige Ward of Pace, FL, Devin Ward of Groveton, TX; great-grandson, Hoyt Tuff Hamilton of Livingston, TX and a host of other relatives and friends also, survive.
