Delbert Lee McAdams, 70, of Groveton, TX died Tuesday morning, April 7, 2026. He was surrounded by his three daughters, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, TX after his body could not keep up with the pace of his sharp mind and wit. His last breath on this earth placed him immediately with his Savior and Lord.
Born in Lufkin, TX on February 19, 1956, he attended school at Groveton and graduated from Little Centerville. He loved bragging that he graduated in the top ten of his class and would laugh and then follow it by saying there were only nine in their graduating class. He lived most of his life in the same town on the same dirt road from his childhood.
While some may know him as Delbert, most of his friends knew him simply by his CB handle "Cornstalk." His childhood dream was to drive a truck, and he succeeded in not only fulfilling that dream but was able to make a long successful career of it. We all know he loved his family only second to the Lord, but driving a truck was a remarkably close third. His health took the ability to drive from him long before he was ready to retire. He began his decades lengthy career in the seventies in the woods logging, did several over the road jobs, and ended his career in 2023 right back where he started – in the piney woods driving a log truck. And he loved every minute of it.
He was a proud and longtime member of Oaklawn Baptist Church. He may not have known big theological concepts, but he knew to teach his girls that even on our very best days our deeds are not enough to pay the penalty of our sins. That we needed Christ. He was a humble and simple man that genuinely loved others more than himself.
He is preceded in death by his parents Sidney & Barbara (Norsworthy) McAdams.
He is survived by his brother, Lester McAdams and wife Terrie; children: Amanda Beggs and husband Joe; Stacey King and husband Darrell Wayne; Alissa Anthony and husband Joey. He also loved three bonus kids: Blake Bass, Carol (Bass) Cotton, and Amber (Beckham) Flarity.
He leaves behind fifteen grandchildren: Nolan, Cole, Andrew, Benjamin, and Lucas Beggs; Kaitlin (King) Broadway, Jake and Dani King; Kristin, Carter, McKenzie and Esme Anthony, Tori Smith, Kayla Houston, and Kenzie McAdams.  Plus, three great-grandsons: Remington Broadway; and Wyatt and Waylon Hall.
He was light-hearted and made jokes until the very last moments of his life. When one of his grandsons came crying into the hospital room after getting hurt on the playground he said, "I know something that'll help" then deadpanned one of his most famous lines for the very last time: "It'll feel better when it quits hurting."  Then, when his girls told him they were going to walk outside to get some air he asked, "You have a flat tire?"
His grandkids (and kids) will miss calling him while he was working and asking what he was doing. His reply was always "oh, I'm out here just going boogity, boogity, boogity. Sometimes the 'boogities' would have more syllables if the pine lines were long.
The family will receive visitors for Delbert Lee McAdams, Saturday, April 11, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM at the Oaklawn Baptist Church in Groveton, TX with Bro. Lester McAdams officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery in Groveton, TX.
He will be greatly missed. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Oaklawn Baptist Church. And that you take the time to roll your windows down, take the long way home, take a drive down a dirt road, do a burnout, spin some tires, throw some rocks, play in the mud, turn the radio up, drive a little fast, honk the horn, and smile when you think of Cornstalk. But most of all – tell your loved ones about Jesus and the gospel. Though we grieve, we do not grieve without hope. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Psalm 116:15
