Funeral services for Mr. Dawson "Gene" Howell, 76 of Groveton, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19th, 2016 with Pastors Billie Jackson and James Whittlesey officiating in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home in Groveton, Texas. Burial will follow in the Johnson-Tullos Cemetery in Apple Springs, Texas. Visitation will be held Thursday evening at Groveton Funeral Home beginning at 6:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
"Gene" was born June 2nd, 1940 in the Claiborn Parish of Louisiana and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 17th, 2016 at his home in Groveton, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents James Thomas and Sally (Stephenson) Howell and his wife of 31 years Willie Mae Howell.
"Gene" was employed with Lufkin Industries Trailer Plant in Lufkin, Texas for 36 years until his retirement. In his spare time, he loved to be outdoors and go hunting but he especially enjoyed going fishing. "Gene" loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Dawson "Gene" is survived by his wife Lois Howell of Groveton, Texas; his three children: son Robert Howell of Apple Springs, son Wayne Howell and wife Jamie of Apple Springs and daughter Sarah Davis and husband Eric of Giddings; four grandchildren: Jessica Cockrell, Victoria Davis, Thomas Davis and Tyler Davis; two great grandchildren: Makenzie Cockrell and Lilly Cockrell; two brothers Thomas Glen Howell of Homer, Louisiana and James H. Howell and wife Glenda of Simsboro, Louisiana; sister Carol Ann Williams of Kokomo, Indiana and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
