Obituary

David Michael Jones, 68, of Groveton, Texas, passed away on May 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born on July 24, 1957, in Pasadena, Texas, to Oamer and Helen (Regeon) Jones, David lived a life grounded in faith, family, hard work, and the quiet beauty of the outdoors he so dearly loved.
David found his greatest joy under open skies—hunting, fishing, and riding the back roads through the good old Piney Woods. He had a way of turning a simple afternoon into a story worth telling, and the people he loved were always at the heart of it. His family and friends were his world, and he showed it through steadfast presence, a ready laugh, and hands always willing to help.
A welder by trade and a craftsman by calling, David worked with remarkable skill for more than forty years. He took pride in every bead laid and every project finished, believing that honest work with your hands was a gift and a duty. Those who worked beside him knew his integrity, his patience, and his quiet excellence. Those who benefited from his talents knew the care and pride he put into everything he touched.
David was preceded in death by his father, Oamer Jones; his mother, Helen Jones; and his sister, Brenda Spicer.
He is survived by his brother, Gary Jones and wife, Yvonne, of Houston, TX; his sister, Donna Jones of Groveton, TX; nephews, Tad Spicer and wife, Jenna of San Antonio, TX, Daniel Jones and wife, Jessica of Willis, TX, Adam Jones of Pearland, TX, and Matthew Jones of Pearland, TX; nieces, Kattie Brewer of Webster, TX, and Holly Heath of Idaho; great-nieces and great-nephews, Shelby Day and husband, Garrison of Conroe, TX, Ryan Spicer and wife, Ava of Utah, Shane Davis of Houston, TX, Hannah Thompson of Oklahoma, Reed Spicer of San Antonio, TX, Lainey Jones of Willis, TX, Tex Martin of Idaho, Ryker Martin of Idaho, Rogen Martin of Idaho, Addison Brewer of Webster, TX, and Matix Brewer of Webster, TX; great-great nephew, Rhett Thompson of Oklahoma; great-great niece, Indie Thompson of Oklahoma; great-great nephew, Grayson Day of Conroe, TX; and a host of extended family and dear friends who will carry his memory forward.3
Family and friends are invited to gather Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Oaklawn Baptist Church in Groveton, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM with Bro. Lester McAdams officiating. Interment will follow at Bennett Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Jones, Adam Jones, Matthew Jones, Tad Spicer, Terry Tullos, Reed Spicer, Lynn Erwin, and Bobby Avila.
David's life was a testament to love lived simply and generously: a good day's work, a shared road through the pines, and a circle of family close at hand. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
