Danny Ray Blackburn, Sr. was born on February 5, 1946, in Lufkin, Texas, to Wesley A. Blackburn and Foy (Bowman) Blackburn. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at his home in Trinity, Texas, at the age of seventy-nine years.
Danny served with dedication as a constable boss for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice until his retirement. He was a man of deep faith who loved the Lord and enjoyed serving as a pastor for numerous years. He raised his family in the Assembly of God Church, faithfully attending services and sharing his spiritual guidance.
On May 21, 1982, Danny married the love of his life, Diane (Redden), at the Baptist Church in Hudson, Texas. Together, they shared nearly forty-two years of love and companionship. Danny especially cherished the time spent with his family, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy.
Danny enjoyed traveling and seeing the world, but he was just as content building things with his hands or spending time outdoors. He had a passion for fishing, particularly for catfish—and enjoyed deer hunting. He shared a special bond with his dogs and took great comfort in their companionship.
Danny is preceded in death by his mother, Foy Lee Blackburn; father, Wesley A. Blackburn; brothers, James, and John Blackburn; sister, Velma Walker; and his son, Michael Blackburn.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Diane Blackburn; sons, Danny Ray Blackburn, Jr., Brian Blackburn, and Daniel Blackburn and wife, Holly; daughter, Deann Tims and husband, Roy; grandchildren: Aaron Blackburn, Kris, James Casey, Micha, Shane, Courtney, Lynzie, Jenna, Ashlee, Emily, Casey, and Jenny; great-grandchildren: John Wayne, Micah, Dawson, Liam, Kailynn, Alexais, Skylar Rose, Autumn, Maelee, Macyn, and Kinsley. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Linda Blackburn; special friend, Annette Simmons; daughter-in-law, Mia Haynes; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M. at Groveton Funeral Home. Services will be officiated by Brian Blackburn.
