In 1942, Ben was born into the hands of a midwife in their small family home on Old Helmic Road to Lonnie and Amy Best. He grew up a simple farm boy with 7 siblings, harvesting crops, swimming in the tank, playing basketball, & yes, running barefoot to & from school. After graduation from Centerville High School with the class of 1960, he left home for the big city of Houston, following small jobs until he discovered the world of transportation. Once he got a taste, it was in his blood. He developed a love of & lifetime career around the trucking business, opening a family-owned company, Best Delivery Systems, with two of his brothers and expanding it into a large corporation. Though a thriving business, they were proud to be family-oriented business, and Ben built life-long friendships with all his employees.

Along the way he married his childhood sweetheart, Peggy Sue Lee and had 2 children he cherished with his whole heart. He spent many-a-years traveling with family and ingraining a love for the outdoors, camping, and farming in the lives of his children.

After retiring from Best Delivery Systems, he indulged in many life hobbies: from cultivating his properties to hunting and fishing to motorcycle riding and traveling the world. As a young man with a desire to serve his community & others, Ben became a Mason and continued the work to become a 32nd degree and later a member of the Shriners. He was a country boy at heart and would give the shirt off his back. He loved to cook, and food was his love language; no one could fry fish or BBQ ribs better. Though he never found a home church, he loved the Lord and gave to many charities.

Ben returned to his heavenly home Saturday, August 26, 2023, at his beloved home in Apple Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Amy Best; siblings: brother, Neil Best; sister, Betty Dennis; brother, Aubrey Best; brother, Mike Best; and great-grandson, Grayson Bravo.
