Obituary for Clayton Bartlett Spiva
Clayton Bartlett Spiva was born on February 16, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, to Clayton Haradon and Mildred Champion Spiva. He passed away unexpectedly on December 13, 2025, at his home in Willis, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and a life well lived.
Clayton worked as a plumber contractor for many years, a trade in which he took immense pride. Through dedication, perseverance, and a strong work ethic, he owned and operated his own plumbing company and was fortunate to retire while still in his fifties. His work not only provided for his family but also reflected the integrity and reliability with which he lived his life.
Family was at the center of Clayton's world. He dearly loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, finding his greatest joy in making memories with them. Living on the lake brought him immense happiness, and he treasured the moments spent teaching his grandchildren how to water ski, taking them boating, and enjoying long days out on the water. These experiences became cherished memories that will be carried forward for generations.
Clayton had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling, always eager for the next adventure. Among his many travels, he was especially proud of having driven to Alaska on more than one occasion—an accomplishment that reflected his adventurous spirit and love for the open road.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Belva Spiva; his daughters, Jacklyn Wilson and Diane Cole; his great-grandmother, Mary Champion; his mother, Mildred Spiva; and his father, J.D. Spiva.
Clayton is survived by his children: son, Clayton Spiva, Jr.; son, Mark Spiva and wife, Debbie; and daughter, Lisa Coldwell and husband, Sid. He is also survived by multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of pride and joy in his life.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Groveton Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Nogalus Prairie.
Clayton Bartlett Spiva will be remembered as a devoted family man, a hardworking businessman, and a man who found true happiness in simple pleasures—time with loved ones, the beauty of the outdoors, and the joy of sharing life's moments with those he held dear. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
