Obituary

Clarice Ramona Willis, age 86, of Onalaska, formerly of Groveton was born January 31, 1928 and passed away on July 7, 2014 at the Hospice in the Pines in Lufkin, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M, Wednesday July 9, 2014 with funeral services being held Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Lester McAdams officiating. Burial will take place in Bennett Cemetery in Groveton, Texas. Mrs. Willis will be escorted to her final resting place by her pallbearers, Tim Etie, Kirk Schellhase, Michael Holland, Gary Ables, Mark Ables and James Ables. Honorary pallbearers are Jeremy Varnado and Michael Mullins.

Mrs. Willis was a faithful member of the Groveton Oaklawn Baptist Church growing up and it was there where she received her baptismal. She was a graduate of Groveton High School and went on to learn the trades of being a beautician. She never chose to work because she felt her occupation was to be a homemaker and to take care of her husband and children. She was married to her husband George for sixty-nine years. Since George traveled for his job, they lived in Houston for several years and it was there that they raised their family. Upon retirement, they moved to Lake Livingston and became members of the First Baptist Church in Onalaska. She loved gardening, cooking and traveling. She also had a passion for helping children and enjoyed working with them through her church group as well as the Onalaska Lioness Club. Mrs. Willis was a charter member of the Greater Onalaska Lioness Club. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.

Mrs. Willis is preceded in death by her parents, Ester Mae Ray Powell and Cleaver "Buck" Powell; brother, Earl C. Powell and a sister, Mavis Aucoin. She is survived by her husband, George Willis, of Onalaska, Texas; daughter, La Nell Holland, of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Mary E. "Beth" Schellhase and Danny Schellhase, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren, Tim Etie, Kirk Schellhase, Michael Holland, Kimberly Varnado and April Mullins; 17 great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothea Ables and Robert Ables, of Groveton, Texas. Numerous other relatives and friends, also survive.
